About this opportunity
The Dr. Wenonah Foster Memorial Prize in Astronomy is awarded annually to the student in Astronomy who, in the opinion of the Physics Department, best exemplifies the spirit of astronomers everywhere. The prize honors the memory of Dr. Wenonah Foster, a medical doctor who was deeply interested in astronomy and served as President of the Charlottetown Astronomy Club in 1991/92. Dr. Foster was born in Wales, trained as a medical doctor, and came to Prince Edward Island with her husband, Reverend John Foster, in 1959 where she had a distinguished medical career. She contributed strongly to the Charlottetown Astronomy Club, sharing her extensive knowledge of astronomy with fellow members. Following her death in 1997, the Charlottetown Astronomy Club established this memorial prize at the University of Prince Edward Island to honor her memory and passion for astronomy. The award recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional dedication and enthusiasm in the field of astronomy.
