About this opportunity
The Dr William Morrison MacKay Memorial Award is presented to students who are First Nation, Inuit, or Métis people of Canada in accordance with the Constitution Act, 1982, Part 2, Section 35(2). Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic standing of at least 2.7 GPA. The award considers both financial need and the applicant's involvement in the Indigenous community. This endowed award was established in May 1946 by Dr. MacKay's 5 daughters, 4 grand-daughters, and 8 other members of the Dr. William Morrison MacKay Chapter IODE. The award honors Dr. MacKay, who was a pioneer medical doctor in the Northwest, the first resident doctor in what is now Alberta, and the first President of the Northern Alberta Medical Association. Students are automatically considered for this award based on their completed General Application through the University of Alberta's scholarship portal.
