About this opportunity

The Durand Scholarship is intended to assist students who encounter financial obstacles that can hinder progression towards earning a degree and/or graduating. It was created to support and encourage the educational ambitions of graduates of the Cora P. Maloney Center. The scholarship can provide support for traditional academic expenses such as tuition, room and board, required fees, course-related books, supplies and equipment, or provide financial assistance for non-traditional academic expenses such as costs associated with transportation to and from Western New York to attend UB, childcare, completing fieldwork, data collection and analysis, presenting a paper, attending a professional conference, participating in faculty-mentored engagement experiences and other learning opportunities. Awards range from $250 to $2,500, depending on the need of the student and available funding. Applicants must be currently-enrolled graduate students in the Graduate School of Education or in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University at Buffalo, and must be alumni of specific UB undergraduate programs including Student Support Services, Daniel Acker Scholars, CSTEP, EOP, or the Ronald E. McNair Program. Applicants must also be first-generation graduate students and/or be able to demonstrate overcoming significant socio-economic barriers to pursue graduate studies.
