About this opportunity
The Dulcie Bowman Memorial Scholarship was established in 1996 to commemorate Miss Dulcie Bowman who died in February 1996. Despite suffering from a significant hearing disability, Dulcie Bowman graduated from the University of Auckland and thereafter pursued a career in teaching. The Scholarship was established by Dulcie Bowman's sister, Miss Alva Bowman, who gifted a capital sum to fund the Award. The main purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage hearing-impaired women students at either undergraduate or postgraduate levels. A bequest from Alva Bowman's estate allowed the Scholarship to be increased in value in 2002, also making it possible to offer two scholarships a year instead of one. The Scholarship provides up to $4,500 annually to support women students with a hearing disability who are enrolled in the second or subsequent year of any undergraduate programme or any year of postgraduate study at the University of Auckland.
