About this opportunity
The Dunkeld Refugee and Asylum Seeker Scholarship is a foundation scholarship offered by Federation University Australia to support refugees in their educational pursuits. The scholarship was established by the Dunkeld Refugee and Asylum Seeker Support Group, which was formed in 2015 with the vision of 'Opening Hearts and Doors to Refugees'. The group uses community initiatives to fundraise, educate, and effect policy change to grow compassion for refugees. Since its inception, the group has raised in excess of $6,000, and the scholarship was first awarded in 2017.
This scholarship provides $1,000 in financial support to eligible refugee students studying at Federation University. The scholarship is specifically targeted at Karen refugees or refugees living within the Nhill district who are studying at the Mt Helen campus. The scholarship supports students across various study levels including certificates, diplomas, bachelor degrees, honours, and postgraduate programs in both higher education and TAFE sectors.
The scholarship is available to both new/commencing and continuing students who meet the eligibility criteria. With one scholarship available per year, this award reflects the community's commitment to supporting refugees in accessing education and building better futures through learning opportunities at Federation University Australia.
