E. Ohnuki-Tierney Book Award for Historical Anthropology

The E. Ohnuki-Tierney Book Award for Historical Anthropology is a bi-annual award that recognizes outstanding scholarship focusing on culture as historical processes. The award honors works that examine an historical period of suitable length necessary for the project undertaken. The research must be grounded in both ethnographic and historical materials, and demonstrate critical uses of social theory, broadly defined. The award carries a cash prize of $800 and a certificate, and is presented at the AAA Annual Meeting. This award is made possible through a gift from Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney and seeks to promote excellence in historical anthropology scholarship published by university presses or well-recognized commercial presses.
