About this opportunity

The Earl and Annie Duffy Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an incoming student from Kinkora Regional High School who has the highest academic average based on admission to UPEI. In the case of two equally qualifying candidates, preference will be given to a student entering the Faculty of Science. This scholarship may be renewed for second, third, and fourth year of study based on the Celebrating Student Achievement Program at UPEI. This scholarship was established at the University of Prince Edward Island in memory of Annie (McIver) and Earl Duffy of Kinkora, PEI. This award was created through donations by their son Regis Duffy and his wife Joan in respect and appreciation of the Duffy's commitment to family and lifelong learning. Annie Duffy attended Prince of Wales College and graduated with a teacher's license in 1928. She taught in Newtown Cross and Kinkora, spending her life teaching children of all grade levels while raising 12 children and helping Earl run the farm. Earl Duffy was born in 1892, enlisted in the first Canadian Tank Battalion in 1915, served in England and France, and was a potato farmer, school board trustee and board member of butter and cheese factory organizations in Kinkora for over 30 years.
