About this opportunity
The Earle and Janet Reid Scholarship was established in 2013 to help United Church parishioners in the Halifax area attend post-secondary education. Dr. Earle Reid grew up in Steam Mill, Kings County, and after losing his father at age six due to lack of medical attention, was driven to become a doctor. He studied diligently and graduated from Dalhousie University with a medical degree in 1957. He met his wife Janet Dexter at a youth dance at Bethany United Church, where they later married and remained active members for 50 happy years together. The scholarship reflects their wish to support the United Church of Canada and its parishioners by helping them pursue higher education. Two scholarships are typically awarded annually, though this may vary based on available income levels. Award winners are selected based on financial need and participation in church activities, with preference given to members of Bethany United Church, United Church of Canada members, and those who have not previously received this scholarship.
