About This Opportunity

The EDU Core Research (ECR:Core) program supports fundamental research (curiosity-driven basic and use-inspired basic research) that contributes to general, explanatory knowledge underlying STEM education across three Research Areas: STEM Learning and Learning Environments, Broadening Participation in STEM fields, and STEM Workforce Development. The program funds research aimed at learners of all groups and ages in formal and informal settings. ECR:Core proposals focus on advancement or refinement of foundational knowledge for STEM education, with potential implications that may be indirect and long-term rather than direct and immediate. The program offers three funding levels aligned with the maturity and scope of proposed work: Level I (up to $500,000), Level II (up to $1,500,000), and Level III (up to $2,500,000), with project durations of 3 to 5 years. The program also supports pilot studies, synthesis projects, and conferences related to advancing fundamental knowledge in the research areas.
