About this opportunity
Awarded to a deserving full-time student in the Bachelor of Education program, who, in the opinion of the Faculty of Education, shows exceptional promise and ability for a career in teaching. Criteria included personal suitability, academic achievement, and relevant experience. This award was created by Elinor (MacDonald) MacLellan in 1995 and was perpetuated by her husband, Donald MacLellan, in memory of Elinor following her passing in 2004. Elinor (MacDonald) MacLellan was born in Glenfinnan, PEI, and graduated from Prince of Wales College in 1943. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Boston University and became PEI's first resource/guidance teacher. She served as Special Education Consultant to the Province of Prince Edward Island and played a major role in the Block Program in Elementary Education. She received numerous honors including admission to the Order of Canada in 1989, an honorary degree from UPEI in 1993, and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003.
