About this opportunity
The Elizabeth Shorten Scholarship is made possible through a generous legacy gift from Elizabeth Shorten, a nursing professional who worked in the Cardiothoracic Ward at Cork University Hospital. The scholarship honors her commitment to patient care and the affiliation between Cork University Hospital and the University. This scholarship supports Medical Doctors at SpR/Registrar level in Cardiology who intend to enroll as MD students at UCC School of Medicine to undertake clinically focused research in cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery at Cork University Hospital. The scholarship provides €15,000 for one year, with the opportunity to extend to two years pending a satisfactory first-year review. Applicants must be current UCC students and submit a 2-page application outlining their clinical research project focused on patients in the Cardiology/Cardiothoracic departments at CUH.
