About this opportunity
The Eric Twiname Trust provides grants to assist in the organization and provision of facilities which enable and encourage young people in full-time education at schools or universities in the United Kingdom (up to age 25) to sail or race. The Trust emphasizes helping young sailors who might otherwise be unable to fulfill their ambitions due to the prohibitively expensive nature of sailing. One of the Trust's key criteria is that as many people as possible should benefit from a donation. The Trust gives sympathetic consideration to applications that would not attract sponsorship or aid from other organizations such as the Sports Council or the RYA. Over the years, the Trust has helped numerous young sailors, many of whom have progressed to National Olympic teams and won Olympic medals. The application process is straightforward, typically requiring only an email or simple handwritten letter, though further information about the project may be requested. The Trust does not provide funding to individuals, and major capital expenditure items such as RIBs and Firefly Flights for Universities can no longer be supported. Where items can also be used by adults, such as clubhouse extensions and jetties, the Trust adheres to its deed ensuring beneficiaries are young people as defined in their criteria.
