About this opportunity
The Ernest E. and Gertrude Annear Poole Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student in the Faculty of Science who is studying Environmental Sciences with a focus on Watershed Integrity. This scholarship was established by John and Barbara Poole and family in memory of John's parents, Ernest E. and Gertrude (Annear) Poole. Ernest Edward Poole was born in Prince Edward Island in 1883 and was educated in grade and high schools including Business College in Charlottetown. He studied architecture and reinforced concrete engineering and was associated with his father in the milling industry. In 1913, Ernest incorporated Poole Construction, Limited, and moved to Regina, Saskatchewan. Gertrude Inez Annear was also born in Prince Edward Island and was educated in public schools and the Prince of Wales College, UPEI's predecessor institution. To commemorate Mr. and Mrs. Poole's memory in their native province, John and Barbara Poole created this scholarship to assist UPEI research graduate students in achieving their educational goals and develop important research activity for society.
