About this opportunity

This is a compensation scheme for reindeer killed by protected predators in Norway. Animal owners have a legal right to full compensation in cases where protected predators such as lynx, wolverine, bear, wolf, or golden eagle cause the loss of livestock or reindeer. The application is submitted by the leader of the siida share (reindeer herding unit) on behalf of the unit. The Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet) retrieves necessary information from the Report on Reindeer Husbandry from the Norwegian Agriculture Agency, and relevant data is used when the County Governor processes the compensation application. The scheme is regulated by Norwegian law and provides compensation to support reindeer herders who experience losses due to protected wildlife.
