About this opportunity

The Estranged Student Bursary is a cash award available to eligible students beginning a full-time Undergraduate course or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Brunel University of London and the Brunel Pathway College in September 2025. The bursary provides financial support to students who are irreconcilably estranged from their parents, meaning they have had no verbal or written contact with both biological or adoptive parents for a significant period of time (usually twelve months or longer). The bursary will be paid once for each eligible level of study, for a maximum of three years for a full-time undergraduate degree, four years for a Foundation or Integrated Masters course, and five years if taking a foundation and integrated Master's course or MBBS programme, subject to meeting progression requirements. For PGCE students, the bursary will only be paid once for one year. The bursary is not payable during placement years or repeating years. The value of the award is £2,000 cash payment per year, paid in three instalments throughout the academic year. A limited number of bursaries are available, with priority given to students with verified Estranged status. There is no separate application process; students must declare their Estranged Student status through their UCAS application, Brunel registration, or Student Loans Company application to be automatically considered.
