The Starting Grant in Natural and Engineering Sciences (Etableringsbidrag inom naturvetenskap och teknikvetenskap) is offered by the Swedish Research Council to support junior researchers in establishing themselves as independent researchers in Sweden. This grant provides funding for research activities within natural sciences and engineering sciences over a four-year period. The grant aims to enable early-career researchers who have completed their doctoral degree between 2 and 7 years prior to the application deadline to develop their independent research line and build their scientific competence. The funding supports all types of project-related costs including salaries, facilities, operational costs, and depreciation costs, with a fixed annual amount of 1,200,000 Swedish kronor per year for four years. Recipients must be employed by the administering institution at a minimum of 50% full-time equivalent during the entire grant period and must dedicate at least 50% of their time to the project. The grant is particularly designed to support researchers in transitioning from postdoctoral positions to independent research leadership positions within Swedish universities or other approved Swedish research institutions.
