Faculty of Engineering Research Stipend Scholarship

The Faculty of Engineering Research Stipend Scholarship (ERSS) has been established to encourage and support outstanding higher degree research (HDR) students within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. This scholarship provides a stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney's Research Training Program (RTP) stipend rate, indexed annually on January 1st. The scholarship supports full-time PhD students for up to 3.5 years and Master's by Research students for up to one year. Students applying for admissions to the Faculty of Engineering are automatically considered for this scholarship, and a separate application is not required. The scholarships may be fully funded by the Faculty of Engineering or co-funded by external research grants or industry funded research projects. Recipients are selected based on academic merit, their area of study and research proposal, or other evidence of research potential. International recipients also receive Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) support. The scholarship provides generous leave arrangements including recreation leave, sick leave, and parental leave provisions. As a condition of acceptance, recipients must withdraw applications for the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships. The scholarship is maintained through satisfactory academic performance, including attending and passing annual progress evaluations and completing required candidature milestones. Recipients may conduct up to 12 months of research outside Australia with appropriate approvals. The award is subject to funding availability and is nominated by relevant research supervisors and the Associate Dean (Research Education) of the Faculty of Engineering.
