Faculty of Science Research Tuition Fee Scholarship

The Faculty of Science Research Tuition Fee Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship funded by the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney. This scholarship is designed to cover the academic course fees of international students undertaking a higher degree by research (Masters by Research or PhD) within the Faculty of Science. The scholarship supports students who have already been awarded a stipend scholarship based on merit following a competitive application process. Successful candidates are automatically considered for this scholarship and do not need to submit a separate application. The scholarship provides full or partial tuition fee coverage depending on whether the recipient's primary stipend scholarship includes partial fee support. For Master of Philosophy (MPhil) recipients, the scholarship covers up to seven research periods (approximately 1.75 years), while Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) recipients may receive coverage for up to twelve research periods (approximately 3 years) with a potential two research period extension, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The scholarship demonstrates the Faculty's commitment to quality in its higher degree research cohort and supports the University's overarching research mission. To be eligible, candidates must be international students with an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled full-time in a Masters by Research or PhD in the Faculty of Science. They must hold an honours degree (first or second class upper) or a master's degree with substantial research component in a relevant field. Additionally, candidates must hold a primary stipend HDR scholarship awarded on merit with an annual value of at least $20,000 that does not offer full fee support. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and previous research experience. Research students within the Faculty of Science who have been awarded a stipend scholarship are automatically considered for this tuition fee scholarship, making the application process seamless. The scholarship does not cover Student Services and Amenities Fees. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress and retain their primary stipend scholarship to continue receiving the tuition fee support.
