About this opportunity
The Father Charlie Cheverie Award is awarded to a graduating student who has the highest mark in Bio 324 or Bio 353 (upper UPEI anatomy courses) taken in their third or fourth year, who has applied to medical school and has demonstrated broad involvement in campus life and/or community volunteerism. This award was created in honour of Reverend J. Charles Cheverie, affectionately known as Father Charlie, who was Professor of Biology at St. Dunstan's University and then UPEI for thirty-eight years until his retirement in 1997. Father Charlie has been a tremendous support to students pursuing a B.Sc. with the goal of entering the field of medicine, serving as a medical school reference for many worthy students. The award recognizes academic excellence in upper-level anatomy courses while also valuing community engagement and the pursuit of medical education.
