About this opportunity
The Faye and David Huestis Family Foundation Renewable Awards are granted to students who are in their first year of their first undergraduate degree program in any faculty at the University of Prince Edward Island. Recipients must have experienced obstacles and adversity, be in significant financial need, and have completed their entire secondary education at a PEI high school within the last three years. If awards are still available after Prince Edward Island applicants have been exhausted, students from other Atlantic Canada provinces may be considered. Applicants are required to provide a letter of reference from an individual who is aware of the applicant's circumstances and will attest that the applicant fits the criteria for the award. In April of 2024, the Faye and David Huestis Family Foundation established these awards at UPEI to support students who otherwise would be unable to attend post-secondary study. It is the family's intention that these awards will offer a transformational opportunity to students that face significant financial barriers and have experienced obstacles and adversity. The foundation was created by David Huestis, who after completing a mathematics degree from Acadia University in 1966, joined a small brokerage and grew his business until his insurance group was sold in 2023.
