About this opportunity
Harvey Mudd College awards one FIRST Robotics scholarship to an incoming first-year student who has participated in a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) in high school. Competitive candidates must demonstrate leadership in their FIRST Robotics experience, an attention to mentoring newer members, and leaving a legacy for their FIRST program.
The scholarship amount of $27,183 was chosen by a generous donor because it is a multiple of Euler's number (e), a fundamental constant in engineering, physics, and mathematics. The scholarship is automatically renewed at the end of the student's first year and thereafter contingent upon maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the end of the second and third years.
Applicants must submit the online FIRST Robotics Scholarship Application by February 1 through the HMC Applicant Hub. The application requires a 550-word statement describing participation in FIRST Robotics, how FIRST has shaped interest in STEM, and views on teamwork given Harvey Mudd's emphasis on collaboration rather than competition.
