About this opportunity
The Florence Simmons Music Award is awarded to an organ student who has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the craft and artistry of organ-playing, and whose overall progress is deemed most meritorious based on the recommendation of the organ instructor. If there are no qualified organ students, the Award may go to a pianist. This scholarship is established at the University of Prince Edward Island by Allison and Gail Swan, owners of MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel, to recognize Miss Simmons' 30 years of service as the organist at the funeral home. Miss Simmons is a graduate of Prince of Wales College 1935 and has dedicated much of her time and many of her talents to Prince Edward Island. She worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Charlottetown for 32 years, played at various churches in PEI, acted as accompanist at the PEI Music Festival for a number of years, and was an organist for many weddings.
