About this opportunity
The Florida Retired Educators Foundation (FREF) Scholarship provides $1,000 awards to Sarasota County graduating high school seniors who wish to become Florida teachers. This scholarship is designed to encourage students to pursue teaching careers in Florida. Recipients must attend an accredited Florida college or university and commit to teaching in Florida following graduation. The scholarship requires recipients to teach in the State of Florida for one year for every year the scholarship was awarded. If recipients do not fulfill this teaching commitment, they must repay any scholarship monies received. Applications undergo a two-stage process including document review and in-person interviews conducted by local FREA Units. The scholarship is renewable provided recipients maintain a 3.0 GPA and submit required supporting documents.
