About this opportunity
This scholarship honors Floyd Edwin Younkin and Mary Irene Pontius, both born and raised in Pickaway County, who built successful businesses including manufactured housing communities and Dycom Industries. Although they never attended college themselves, they strongly believed in the rewards that education brings. Following their deaths (Floyd in 1997 and Irene in 2015), their family established this scholarship to continue their legacy of supporting education for youth in the communities they loved. The scholarship provides awards between $5,000 and $15,000 to graduating high school seniors from Pickaway County who plan to attend college full-time in Ohio. Larger award amounts are payable over two-to-four years. Candidates must be residents of Pickaway County, graduating from a traditional four-year high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and planning to attend college or university full-time in the State of Ohio.
