Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst) Original Source

About This Opportunity

Every year about 800 foreign students come to Germany as foreign-language assistants (FLA) to be placed in host schools and support the local subject-specialist teachers in their native languages. The FLA assist the teachers during 12 lessons per week and help make the situation of learning a foreign language lively and inspiring for the pupils. The program runs for 6 to 9 months and provides a monthly stipend of 1,000 EUR along with health, accident, and liability insurance and housing allowance if necessary. The FLA's responsibilities include language tutorials and providing information for cultural studies lessons, role playing or rehearsing exam situations with the pupils, conversation exercises in small groups, and preparing illustrative and teaching materials. Applicants should have completed a degree course of at least 2 years at a higher education institution in their home countries with one of the subjects being German and have sufficient command of German language. This program is administered by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Pädagogischer Austauschdienst) and is open to students from Australia, Belgium, Canada (Anglophone and Francophone), France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. International students apply directly in their home countries through relevant partner organizations.
