About this opportunity

This call aims to establish a research center for the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) for the benefit of the transport sector. The goal of the AI center for transport is to strengthen innovation capacity among actors in the transport sector and increase value creation for businesses through increased use of AI. The center will focus on future data processing with emphasis on artificial intelligence, conducting high-quality AI research on issues where cross-sectoral and cross-institutional research and collaboration are necessary to address challenges facing the transport sector. The center will connect leading research environments in AI with leading environments in transport research, build capacity and competence in research environments, increase AI competence in the transport sector, and develop new knowledge that addresses challenges and needs for actors. The center must have broad institutional and regional collaborations with relevant actors, develop new knowledge, technology and/or solutions that are continuously used to create value for the transport sector, and strengthen Norway's national ability to solve complex problems through interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Applications are evaluated by an expert panel using four criteria: Research Quality, Impact and Effects, Implementation, and Relevance to the call theme. The Portfolio Board for Energy and Transport makes final funding decisions based on panel evaluations and strategic priorities.
