About This Opportunity

The Frank Evison Research Scholarship in Geophysics was established in 2006 through a generous endowment by Professor Evison's family which was matched by the Earthquake Commission, GNS Science, the New Zealand Geophysical Society, and private donors. The scholarship honors Emeritus Professor Frank Evison who had a distinguished career in geophysics and earthquake research at Victoria University of Wellington. The scholarship supports postgraduate students at the Masters by Thesis or PhD level conducting research focused on long-term seismogenesis and long-range earthquake forecasting, continuing the pioneering work led by Professor Evison. The award provides $20,000 towards fees with any remainder paid as a stipend, subject to funds available. One scholarship is offered annually with a tenure of one year, closing on November 1st each year. Recipients are selected by the Head of School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences and appropriate staff from the school.
