About This Opportunity

The Fred and Helen Hanan Endowed Scholarship in Chinese Studies was established in 2001 and was financed by Anneliese and Patrick Hanan in memory of Professor Hanan's parents. Patrick Hanan, a graduate of the University of Auckland, was the Victor S. Thomas, Professor of Chinese Literature, Emeritus, at Harvard University. The endowment is intended to support Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland students of exceptional achievement and promise in pursuing academic work in Chinese studies. The scholarship provides financial assistance to international or domestic postgraduate students majoring in Chinese Studies who are in financial need. The scholarship offers up to $40,000 in total annually, with tenure of one year and the number of awards varying each year.
