About this opportunity
The Frederick M. Davison Award for Excellence is awarded to the student entering UPEI who, in the judgement of the Scholarship and Awards Committee, best reflects the following criteria: will have achieved well academically, though not necessarily the highest aggregate in high school; and exhibits dedication and a desire to make a difference in the community. The award was established at the University of Prince Edward Island in memory of Frederick M. Davison, a well-known Prince Edward Island businessman born in Burlington, P.E.I. Fred Davison worked for the M.F. Schurman Co. Ltd. where he rose to executive vice president and director. He was deeply committed to community service, serving on the Board of Trustees of Prince County Hospital, the Summerside Chamber of Commerce, the Kensington Town Council, and as a volunteer fireman. He was a passionate advocate for children with physical challenges through his work with the Rotary Club of Summerside. After Fred's untimely death in 1976, his widow Helen Whitenect established this scholarship through her estate to honor his memory and their shared belief in the value of education.
