About this opportunity
The Frederick S. "Joe" Kareta Scholarship is awarded to students at Westfield State University who demonstrate academic excellence, community service, and financial need. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and demonstrate volunteerism in their community. The scholarship prioritizes incoming freshmen planning to study criminal justice who are currently seniors at South Hadley or Holyoke Public Schools. If no qualified incoming freshmen apply, awards are given in order to current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors at Westfield State University who are majoring in criminal justice. Applicants must be residents of Hampden or Hampshire County, Massachusetts, with preference given to students from South Hadley or Holyoke. As part of the application, students must submit a 250-word essay describing their community volunteer work and how receiving this scholarship will affect their future educational goals.
