About this opportunity
This scholarship has been established by family and friends in honour of Frederick W. Bent (October 30, 1968 - September 29, 2003) to provide assistance to students enrolled in the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science programs at the University of Waterloo. Fred graduated with honours in 1994, with a Master's in Mathematics, Computer Science, and went on to become a successful executive for a local firm before his untimely death. The award provides up to $5,000 paid over 3 academic terms as institutional matching funds for recipients of an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science & Technology (QEII-GSST) in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science. The scholarship honors Fred's memory, celebrating his quick and dry wit, his sense of honour, his kindness and selfless generosity. Preference is given to students from the Golden Triangle area, and selection is made automatically by the Associate Chair/Graduate Officer of Computer Science.
