About This Opportunity
Freeman-ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) provides need-based scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program aims to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in Asia and help them gain skills that will prepare them for success in the global economy. Administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), Freeman-ASIA supports students who demonstrate financial need and have limited prior experience in Asia. The scholarship covers study abroad programs during various terms including Summer, Fall, Academic Year, Spring, and Calendar Year options. Recipients are expected to complete a service project to share their experiences with others and promote study abroad in Asia. The program particularly encourages applications from students with high financial need and those who have not previously traveled or studied in Asia.
