Friedrich Ebert Foundation Original Source

About This Opportunity

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation offers scholarships to particularly gifted students from countries in the Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states, and eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries. Students in any subject area are eligible to apply if they demonstrate excellent academic merit and are already studying in Germany. The program supports Bachelor's, Master's, Diploma, and state examination degree programs at state or state-recognized higher education institutions in Germany. Sponsored students receive both material and non-material support to ensure they have no financial worries during their studies and have more time for volunteering activities. Recipients must be committed to the values of social democracy and demonstrate this commitment in their lives. Students or doctoral candidates from OECD countries are not eligible for funding. The scholarship provides a monthly base amount of 992 EUR, covers health insurance costs, and offers an additional allowance of 160 EUR per month for scholars with children. The scholarship does not need to be repaid. Applications may be submitted at any time, though specific timelines apply. Successful applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic merit, social and political involvement, and sufficient German language proficiency (minimum DSH level 2 or equivalent), even if their courses are conducted in English.
