About this opportunity

The FSU Service Scholar Program is a four-year scholarship opportunity for high school graduating seniors with a distinguished record of community involvement and a strong desire to continue to learn through service at Florida State University. The program awards $4,500 and is affiliated with the Center for Leadership & Service at FSU. Competitive candidates demonstrate community involvement beyond the normal requirements for high school graduation or Florida Bright Futures scholarships, both in quantity and depth of service, with particular consideration given to commitments that exhibit initiative and leadership. International and out-of-state students are welcome to apply. Service Scholars are actively engaged Florida State University students within the Center, across campus, and in the Tallahassee community. The program expects that Service Scholars develop as effective and civically-minded leaders and demonstrate that development in all spaces. The Service Scholar program functions as a supportive community of service-minded student leaders. Program requirements include participating in 75 hours of community service each semester (45 hours for the first semester of the first year), maintaining a 2.75 GPA each semester, attending monthly meetings called Evenings to engage in thoughtful conversation around service and leadership topics, enrolling in a service-focused course each semester, and for first-year students, being assigned a peer mentor. A maximum of eight semesters of scholarship funds are available. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years contingent upon maintaining a 2.75 GPA and meeting the ongoing requirements of the program, including continued community service engagement and participation in program activities.
