About this opportunity

The Full-time Clinical Ethics Fellowship is a post-doctoral fellowship offered by the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. It provides an immersive and rigorous experience in clinical medical ethics, empirical ethics research, and ethics consultation with renowned ethics faculty. The program begins with a four-to-five-week Summer Intensive Clinical Ethics Course in July, covering foundational areas including clinical ethics consultations, pediatric ethics, surgical ethics, reproductive ethics, health disparities and health equity, and transplantation ethics. Following the intensive, fellows engage in ethics consultations, hospital unit rounding, and mentored clinical ethics research throughout the year. From September to June, fellows participate in a structured ethics curriculum one day per week, including Topics in Clinical Medical Ethics, Introduction to Moral Philosophy, and Research-in-Progress seminars. The fellowship welcomes applicants from medicine, philosophy, nursing, and social sciences who seek to make clinical ethics a major focus of their professional lives. There is consideration of extending the fellowship to a second year.
