This scholarship honors Fulton Thompson Cousins (1938-2017), who worked in sawmills, ran a feed mill, operated an egg and hog farm, built a campground, and founded Woodland Heights Ltd., a construction business. He was known for his ingenuity and served on the board of the Atlantic Land Improvement Contractors Association (ALICA) for many years. The Heavy Equipment Show, started by ALICA in 1986, supports agricultural, forestry and construction sectors through various initiatives including contributions to education institutions. ALICA established this scholarship in memory of Fulton Cousins to honor his legacy of environmental stewardship and land improvement.
