About this opportunity
Granted to students entering the UPEI Faculty of Education B.Ed. program who are in financial need and have demonstrated good academic standing during their most recent university education. The Hessian family was originally from Georgetown. Louise's father, James Hessian, an engineer for CN Railways, was killed in the 1932 Tignish train wreck. Her mother, the former Eda Prowse, believed strongly in education and moved the family to Charlottetown after James passed away to take advantage of better schools. Louise earned a diploma in special education, spent 44 years teaching in the Charlottetown school system and spent time teaching abroad. Louise was one of the consistent family members who represented Hessian and Quinn families at the annual Faculty Recognition Night where the Hessian Awards are presented. She has established this scholarship in her lifetime to benefit incoming UPEI students.
