About this opportunity
The G. Michael Shoffner, M.D. Scholarship Fund honors Dr. Shoffner's legacy of lifelong learning and commitment to service. Dr. Shoffner pursued medical school at age 37 after a distinguished healthcare career, graduating first in his class from the Medical College of Georgia. This scholarship provides financial support to non-traditional medical school students who are pursuing an M.D. or D.O. degree in Georgia. The scholarship recognizes individuals who, like Dr. Shoffner, have taken a non-traditional path to medicine, demonstrating perseverance, passion, and a commitment to serving their community. Applicants must be at least 25 years of age and have lived or worked in Central Georgia for a minimum of 3 years before applying to medical school. The award typically provides $500 to $1,000 per year, with one award given annually. Prior recipients may reapply and be reconsidered for future awards.
