Gene Seymour Memorial Sports Journalism Scholarship

The Gene Seymour Memorial Sports Journalism Scholarship is awarded to juniors or seniors at Eastern Illinois University who are majoring in Journalism with an emphasis in news-editorial/newspaper and sports journalism. Recipients must have at least four semesters of significant participation in sports journalism at The Daily Eastern News and must be students in good academic standing who will attend at least one additional semester prior to graduation. Candidates must submit a 250-word essay stating their intention to pursue a career as a sports journalist and explaining why. The scholarship recognizes students of outstanding character whose actions reflect credit upon Eastern Illinois University. Recipients may reapply for the award in subsequent years provided they continue to meet all stated criteria. The award is announced in the Spring and disbursed the following Fall semester.
