About this opportunity
The George Alexander Foundation Scholarship is designed for commencing bachelor degree students moving from rural/regional locations to Melbourne, Australia. The scholarship recognizes students with academic and leadership ability, and a passion for community involvement. George Alexander (1910–2008) was an engineer who studied at RMIT and created the George Alexander Foundation to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds get a start in life. The scholarship provides significant financial support to enable students from rural and regional areas to pursue their tertiary education at RMIT University's Melbourne campuses.
Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement with an ATAR of 80 or higher, along with a proven track record of community participation and volunteer activities. The scholarship values leadership potential and community contribution, seeking students who have been active in their schools and broader communities. Recipients are expected to be role models who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteering, charity work, and participation in social and environmental causes.
The scholarship covers up to three years of study and aims to remove financial barriers for talented students from rural and regional areas who are commencing their first year of university study. This opportunity is particularly valuable for students who face obstacles due to their geographic location and need to relocate to Melbourne to pursue higher education. The foundation's mission reflects George Alexander's own experiences and his commitment to providing educational opportunities to those who face challenges similar to those he overcame.
