About this opportunity
The George Harris Scholarships (Chemistry) is a scholarship that recognizes outstanding research and teaching within the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney. Established in 1973 by a bequest from George Harris, this scholarship provides financial assistance to PhD students who have demonstrated excellence in both their research activities and contributions to teaching within the School.
The scholarship is valued at $400 and is awarded as a lump sum payment. It is available to both domestic and international students who are currently enrolled in a PhD program within the School of Chemistry. To be eligible, candidates must have completed at least 2 years (full-time equivalent) of their PhD and have contributed to the teaching activities of the School.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, research activities and output, and contribution to teaching within the School. Recipients are selected by a committee consisting of the Head of School – Chemistry and the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominees. The scholarship aims to encourage and recognize the dual commitment to research excellence and teaching contributions among doctoral students in chemistry.
