The program supports independent research projects in archaeology, history of art, historical Islamic studies, history, history of science, prehistory and early history, and history of law. Applicants holding a PhD (obtained within the last 10 years) or eligible to be a junior professor are invited to apply, independent of nationality or place of work. The funding is granted to carry out individual research projects and ranges from 1 to 24 months. Post-doctoral scientists receive a scholarship base amount of 2,760 EUR each month, while scientists with a post-doctoral lecturer qualification receive 3,720 EUR monthly. Additional benefits include a foreign-residence allowance, travel allowance, material costs, family allowances for children, and funds for student staff. Applications are accepted year-round with committees deciding on funding allocation twice a year, and smaller grants up to 30,000 EUR can be applied for at any time. Approximately 15.1% of applicants are awarded scholarships.
