About This Opportunity

The Gerda Henkel Foundation offers research scholarships for postdoctoral scientists and researchers with post-doctoral lecturer qualifications in the historical humanities. The program supports independent research projects in archaeology, history of art, historical Islamic studies, history, history of science, prehistory and early history, and history of law. Applicants holding a PhD (obtained within the last 10 years) or eligible to be a junior professor are invited to apply, independent of nationality or place of work. The funding is granted to carry out individual research projects and ranges from 1 to 24 months. Post-doctoral scientists receive a scholarship base amount of 2,760 EUR each month, while scientists with a post-doctoral lecturer qualification receive 3,720 EUR monthly. Additional benefits include a foreign-residence allowance, travel allowance, material costs, family allowances for children, and funds for student staff. Applications are accepted year-round with committees deciding on funding allocation twice a year, and smaller grants up to 30,000 EUR can be applied for at any time. Approximately 15.1% of applicants are awarded scholarships.
