About This Opportunity
The International PhD Programme at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) offers fully funded doctoral positions for international students holding Master's degrees in molecular biology, biochemistry, physics, mathematics, computational biology, computer science, epidemiology/public health studies and related subjects. The programme provides comprehensive support for PhD candidates conducting cancer research across five major research programmes: Cell and Tumor Biology, Functional and Structural Genomics, Epidemiology/Public Health/Prevention and Survivorship, Immunology/Infection and Cancer, and Imaging and Radiooncology. PhD students receive full financial support for a minimum of 3 years, either from DKFZ or third-party sources, with salaries competitive by national standards. The programme is conducted entirely in English and includes structured support through a Thesis Advisory Committee, scientific and professional skills courses, opportunities to attend international conferences, and comprehensive career development support. The programme also offers possibilities for interdisciplinary PhD projects across different research topics. Approximately 36 PhD positions are available per year. Applicants must have or be completing a Master of Science degree (or academic equivalent) and demonstrate very good academic records and English proficiency. The application process requires submission through an online system, with supporting documents including two letters of recommendation and proof of English language proficiency.
