German Research Foundation (DFG): Heisenberg Programme
About This Opportunity
The Heisenberg Programme sponsors outstanding researchers who are qualified for tenured professorship, providing them the opportunity to prepare for a scientific leadership position while continuing to perform top-class research. The programme is directed primarily at researchers who have qualified for professorship via the Emmy Noether Programme, DFG project staff positions, private-sector research, or mid-level faculty positions. It also welcomes junior professors with positive evaluations, researchers who have achieved habilitation, German researchers returning from abroad, and qualified foreign researchers pursuing careers in Germany. The Heisenberg Programme offers four different funding types: the Heisenberg position (providing funding for a position and flexible research funds at a German institution), the Heisenberg temporary substitute position for clinicians (funding replacement staff to allow clinical scientists time for research), the Heisenberg professorship (funding for a temporary professorship plus research funds), and the Heisenberg fellowship (€4,450 per month plus material costs allowance for research at any academic institution). Awardees may choose one funding type or combine modules during the funding period, which extends up to 5 years. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
