About this opportunity

The Gerry Gillis Memorial Scholarship in Athletics is awarded annually to a returning Academic All-Canadian athlete participating in Panther sports and contributing superior athletic sportsmanship with strong academic achievement. This scholarship is established at the University of Prince Edward Island by family and friends of the late Gerry Gillis, SDU Class of 1962. Gerry Gillis was a native of St. Peter's Bay, PEI. He graduated in 1962 from Saint Dunstan's University, one of UPEI's predecessor institutions. It was there he met his future wife, Stella Howard, and they had five children. Gerry worked as a Chartered Accountant until his death at the young age of 43. Gerry was a well-respected member of the sports community. He was a valuable member of the Varsity Hockey and Football Teams while at SDU. He shared his skills and knowledge with several years of dedicated service in both minor hockey and minor football. His family and friends have honoured his dedication through creation of this scholarship.
