Gizmo Latimer Memorial Scholarship in Cardiology

The Gizmo Latimer Memorial Scholarship in Cardiology is granted on an annual basis to a student who is enrolled and in good standing in the Master of Science - Residency in Cardiology program in the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island. The successful candidate must have provided evidence of a promising career in veterinary cardiology with an interest in mitral heart valve disease and congestive heart failure. While recipients can receive this scholarship more than once, it is the donors' preference to distribute the scholarship to a wider variety of students when possible. This scholarship honors Gizmo, a Shih-Tzu who fought Mitral Valve Disease courageously until November 25, 2019. The scholarship was established to support the education of cardiology specialists so that advances can be made in the prevention, treatment, and care of Mitral Valve Disease. The donors hope to contribute to developments that will help families manage this common disease and allow loved ones to stay together longer.
