Glen and Mildred Hesler Memorial Scholarship

The Glen and Mildred Hesler Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduates of Mattoon High School who have been accepted as full-time students at Eastern Illinois University. The scholarship is specifically designed for student-athletes who participated in athletics at Mattoon High School and plan to continue participating in athletics at EIU. Special consideration is given to "at-risk" students who were at risk for dropping out of high school but persevered and improved themselves during their time at MHS. Recipients must provide a letter of recommendation from a Mattoon High School teacher or guidance counselor that includes a statement about how the student has improved during their time at MHS. The scholarship may be renewed for up to four years, provided recipients maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 and fulfill their commitment to give back to the community by mentoring other "at-risk" students at Mattoon High School or through other community service each year. This scholarship is announced in the spring and awarded in the fall and spring semesters. Multiple recipients may be selected each year. The award amount varies depending on available funds.
