About This Opportunity

The Golden State Teacher Grant (GSTG) Program awards students currently enrolled in a professional preparation program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and working towards earning their preliminary teaching or pupil personnel services credential. The program provides financial assistance to future teachers who commit to working at eligible California priority schools or California State Preschool Programs (CSPP) after completing their credential program. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a CTC-approved professional preparation program located in California, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and be working toward a preliminary teaching or pupil personnel services credential. Recipients must complete their program and obtain their credential within 6 years from the date their initial payment is mailed. The program currently operates under Cohort 3, which offers up to $10,000 in grant funding ($5,000 for online institutions) with a 2-year service obligation to be completed within 4 years of program completion. Recipients must sign a Service Agreement committing to work at priority schools (CA public schools with more than 55% of pupils classified as English Learners, eligible for free or reduced-price meals, or current foster youth) or California State Preschool Programs. If the service obligation is not met, recipients must repay a portion of the grant funds based on the number of years completed.
