About this opportunity
The Gordon and Helen MacDonald Award in Applied Human Science is awarded to a student who is a resident of Prince Edward Island and is entering their final year of the Applied Human Science program. The award recognizes students who have, in the opinion of the faculty, demonstrated a strong commitment to the program and an improved academic performance. This award was established by Mrs. Helen MacDonald through a gift from her estate. Gordon and Helen MacDonald were community-minded people who were very active in sports, community activities and youth work. Mrs. MacDonald was instrumental in bringing about significant improvements in the PEI School System and received numerous honors for her contributions, including an Honorary L.L.D. from St. Dunstan's University in 1968. J. Gordon MacDonald operated the S.A. MacDonald department store and provided leadership in establishing the first sheltered workshop in PEI, serving in various community leadership roles.
