About this opportunity
The Guest Speaker Fund is a special fund established by the American Musicological Society to advance interdisciplinary collaboration by providing financial support to AMS committees and study groups that invite speakers from outside the field of musicology to participate in the AMS annual meeting. The fund aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and incorporate insights and perspectives from many disciplines into the annual meeting sessions. All invited guest speakers must be vetted by the Committee on the Annual Meeting and Public Events.
Grants of up to $1,500 are available to provide travel expenses (airfare, meals, lodging, etc.) and honorarium for each invited guest speaker. Guest speakers may also be given complimentary conference registration if requested. For online annual meetings, travel costs will only be covered if the guest speaker is traveling to participate in an in-person event organized as part of the annual meeting.
Applications are submitted through a separate proposal submission process from the annual meeting itself. The application deadline (mid-January) is earlier than the AMS committee/study group proposal deadline (mid-March). Applications must include a narrative description of the session, a budget for how the funds will be expended, and a CV for the proposed guest speaker.
